Man’s formal dragon robe 1800-1900

What stories do you know that have dragons in them?

This silk coat is made of blue silk, embroidered with coloured silk and gold-wrapped thread and metal buttons. It dates from the 19th century and would have been worn by an important Chinese official. In China dragons are considered to bring good luck. There are many stories about dragons, including the classic folk tale, ‘The Four Dragons’. Gallery 38: China from AD 800
